Origin and Background

Originated in Belgium, Bred for Meat

The Beltex is a modern European meat sheep breed that originated in Belgium through the selective breeding of Texel sheep for exceptional muscling and carcass quality. The breed was developed during the latter part of the twentieth century and quickly gained recognition throughout Europe for its superior meat yield and lean carcass characteristics. The name "Beltex" is derived from "Belgian Texel", reflecting its origins.

Today, Beltex genetics are highly valued internationally and are widely used as a terminal sire breed to produce prime lambs with excellent conformation and market appeal.
